Lee Koonce is Executive Director of Fenimore Chamber Orchestra. A nationally respected arts leader and pianist, he has devoted his career to expanding access to music and strengthening cultural institutions through artistic vision, community engagement, and organizational leadership.
Before joining Fenimore Chamber Orchestra, he served as President & Artistic Director of the Gateways Music Festival and held executive leadership positions with leading music and arts education organizations in New York and Chicago, including Third Street Music School Settlement, Sherwood Conservatory of Music, and Opus 118 Harlem School of Music.
In addition to his work in arts administration, Koonce is an active broadcaster and advocate for young musicians, regularly appearing on WQXR as host of the Young Artists Showcase.
He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish Literature from Oberlin College, and a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music.
His work reflects a deep commitment to artistic excellence, meaningful community connection, and ensuring that live music remains a vital part of civic life.
